My Review, Loraine Oliver:
I had never read anything from Ms. Grosso and did not know what to expect; however soon I was so engrossed in this novel I rode 3 miles past my bus stop-it is that good! After reading this book I am going to read all of the books in this series.
The characters are well developed and very likable and I am sure I will see more of them in the future. The main characters in this particular story are Kade, a smoking hot vampire, who lives in New Orleans, and Sydney, a beautiful but human detective who makes her home in Philadelphia. Kade is in Philadelphia after an alpha wolf by the name of Tristan called him to let him know about a murder at the waterfront and how it was definitely supernatural in nature, Kade has flown in to see about it. He goes to the waterfront where he encounters Sydney for the first time and feels attracted to her in a way he has never felt about anyone over the centuries.
Sydney a beautiful but sassy and sarcastic detective sees Kade and feels the same way but does not want to believe it, and so is very belligerent and does not want his help on the case. Of course she has no say in the matter and so they wind up working together.
A bunch of things happen and I do not want to give the story away so you will have to see for yourself what happens.
Kade's deepening feelings for Sydney cause all kinds of commotion however and she is adamant she can take care of herself and she wants him to realize that. And never being in love before, Sydney feels very threatened by Kade.
One of my favorite passages of the book is when Kade says to Sydney "We will do this together love, but know that it will be done my way.I will keep you safe and after this evil is extinguished, you will be mine and no one else's."
Sydney responds by saying "Kade, love you should know here and now that I belong to no one but myself." Another quote I liked was when the author showed Kade's feelings as well as his nature when she said; "She looked down at the floor and then up to Kade. He was dangerous, primal, unyielding. He snaked a hand around Sydney's waist, and shot her a look. "No one touches what is mine," Kade was not about to discuss the topic any further. He would not tolerate anyone hurting those he loved, especially Sydney. He was vampire: decisive, formidable, territorial. And Miss Sydney Willows belonged to and with him, even if she did not know it yet."
After everything goes down, Sydney, needing space, leaves New Orleans to go back to Philadelphia and forgets to tell Kade she is leaving.
What happens at the end of the book was hilarious!. Needless to say you have to read it for yourself.
Part of this book I really enjoyed was the great dialogues between Sydney and Kade, as well as all of the other characters The author is very gifted and it makes the book so much more enjoyable.
